OPSWAT adds SentinelOne AI to boost Metascan malware defence

Yesterday

SentinelOne and OPSWAT have announced an OEM partnership to integrate SentinelOne's AI-powered malware detection capabilities into OPSWAT's Metascan Multiscanning technology.

The collaboration aims to enhance threat detection by combining SentinelOne's artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) technology with OPSWAT's multiscanning approach, which already utilises more than 30 anti-malware engines for identifying threats.

Integration details

The joint solution is designed to deliver more accurate and faster malware detection across both Windows and Linux environments, offering improved protection against ransomware and zero-day attacks. OPSWAT customers using the Metascan Multiscanning platform will now benefit from autonomous detection that does not require a constant cloud connection, making it suitable for diverse operational settings.

Benny Czarny, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of OPSWAT, said, "OPSWAT's mission is to ensure the secure and compliant flow of data across the world's critical infrastructure. Integrating SentinelOne's AI detections strengthens Metascan's multilayered defence, giving our customers faster, smarter protection against today's most sophisticated threats."

The new integration focuses on mitigating modern malware, including polymorphic malware strains capable of evading traditional signature-based defences. By leveraging SentinelOne's AI/ML capabilities, OPSWAT aims to extend threat coverage and improve detection accuracy, claiming over 99% detection rates using their signature, heuristic, and machine learning processes.

Industry outlook

The malware landscape continues to grow in complexity, with enterprises facing increasingly sophisticated attack vectors. OPSWAT and SentinelOne's partnership reflects a broader industry trend favouring collaborative solutions that bring together multiple defence layers. The cross-platform compatibility of the updated Metascan Multiscanning technology is positioned to support organisations with diverse IT environments.

"Our collaboration with OPSWAT reflects a shared commitment to strengthening cybersecurity through innovation," said Melissa K. Smith, Vice President, Strategic Technology Partnerships and Initiatives, SentinelOne. "By integrating our AI/ML detections with Metascan Multiscanning, we're delivering joint value that helps organisations elevate their threat detection strategies and better protect critical infrastructure across complex environments."

The enhanced solution is now available, supporting key OPSWAT products, including MetaDefender Core, MetaDefender ICAP Server, and MetaDefender Kiosk, in both on-premises and cloud configurations. The companies state that this integration is intended to serve both public and private sector customers seeking to safeguard data flow across critical infrastructure, aiming to reduce risk by addressing both known and unknown threats.

Implementation

The integration of SentinelOne's AI/ML detection is part of OPSWAT's latest Metascan Multiscanning release. The enhanced detection is accessible to existing and new OPSWAT customers as part of their ongoing product offerings, aiming to fortify defences against advanced persistent threats and malware designed to circumvent standard anti-virus measures.

SentinelOne's AI-driven approach operates alongside other engines within Metascan, broadening detection coverage by addressing threats that may evade individual scanning technologies. The integration aligns with security best practices, supporting compliance and data protection requirements across regulated industries.

This partnership reinforces a trend among cybersecurity providers to integrate AI and machine learning into core products, in response to evolving attacker techniques that challenge conventional defences.
